JACOB WEISEL 22 Feb., 1754- 12 April, 1839 DECLARATION FOR PENSIONState of Pennsylvania Bedford County
On this first day of September A.D. 1837 personally appeared in open Court before Alexander Thomson Esquire, President and his associate Judges of the Court of Common Pleas of Bedford County now sitting Jacob Weisel a resident of St. Clair Township in this County of Bedford and State of Pennsylvania aged eighty three years and upwards, who being first duly sworn according to law, doth his oath make the following declaration in order to obtain the benefits of the provision made by the Act of Congress passed the 7th June 1832. That he entered the service of the United States and served as herein stated viz. That in the year 1776 shortly before or after harvest he enlisted in the flying camp in a Company Commanded by Captain Valentine Upp of which Samuel Dean(?) was Lieutenant. That they marched from Bucks County Pennsylvania when he enlisted to Amboy where they encamped. That from Bucks County to Amboy they marched through a number of places of which he can only recollect Brunswick, Elizabethtown & Trenton. In consequence of sickness he did not go further than to Amboy and a substitute having been found for him he was permitted to return home. He cannot, owning to his advanced age, recollect the exact time he went out but knows certainly he was out five months. That in the following spring he was drafted in the militia of Bucks County and recieved a commission as a first Lieutenant of a company of foot in the 3rd Battalion of the militia in Bucks County aforesaid, dated the 6th day of May 1777 a few days after which date he marched with his company commanded by Captain Jacob Shoop and under the command of Colonels Robert Robertson and Dooms (cannot recollect the name of the major). That they went first to Bristol where they remained one month after which they marched up the Delaware River to Corill's Ferry guarding boats where, they also remained one month and were then discharged and he returned home, having been out two months. That he was again called out in the militia but whether in the latter parts of the same year 1777 or the next year he cannot now tell. They were called out to guard prisoners who were captured with Burgoyne in the north in the latter part of the above year. That he again acted under his commission of Lieutenant and served as such. The captain of the company was David Mellinger and they were two months. That he afterwards received another commission in the second Battalion of militia of Bucks County but was never called out afterwards. Applicant states that he cannot remember the names of the general officers but he knew Genl. Washington.
He further states that owning to his advanced age his memory so much impaired that he cannot distinctively recollect the periods of his service, but is certain as to the time of service above stated. He is also very hard of hearing and in consequence does not converse much with any person and for this reason his application was not made sooner as he never heard of the pension law until his brother told him of it a few days (?).
Applicant also states that he was born on the 20th day of February 1754 in Bucks County Pennsylvania and that he has in his possession a record of his age which he copied from a record left by his father.
He was living in Bucks County aforesaid where he was called into service- which he entered the first time by enlistment and the other times by draft. He lived in Bucks County a number of years when he went to Bedford County, where he now lives, and where he has resided for nearly forty years past.
He does not know whether he has a discharge but he has at home a great many old papers which he will have examined.
He had two commissions one as Lieutenant and one as ensign the first of which was signed by Tho Mharton jur President of the Executive Council of Pennsylvania and attested by F Matlack Secretary dated the 6th of May 1777 and the other signed Jos Reed President of the Council aforesaid and attested by F Mattack Secretary dated the 10th of May 1780.
That his brother George Weisel and he believes Peter Maun(?) can testify to his service and his character for (?) That he hereby relinquishes every claim whatever to a pension except the present and declares that his name is not on the Pension Roll of any agency of any state.

Whereas George Wisel, late of the Township of Conemaugh .... deceased, became in his lifetime lawfully seised in his demise etc. in the deed executed to him in Summerhill Township to the said George Wisel adjoing other land of George Wisel bearing the date of the seventh day of June in the year of our Lord one thousand eight hundred and three: containing 100 acres; being so thereof seised as afore said the said George Wisel for a valuable consideration did on the fifth day of August one thousand eight hundred and forty seven by an endoresement on the back of the Deed executed to him by a certain Philip Dimond for the land above described assigned etc ... to George Murray who paid to George Wisel the consideration money in full etc. Neither the deed from Philip Dimond nor the one to George Murray had ever been acknowledged and George Wisel in his lifetime did not complete the title to George Murray. etc.... After the death of George Wisel to wit on the 4th day of June in the year 1855 the said George Murray presented a petition to Orphans Court to prove said contract etc.... The High Sheriff and Court approved and gave the land to George Murray on Dec. 5, 1855.
On July 1849, George Wisel made arrangements to sell land to George Shaffer - he, George Wisel died before arrangements could be completed and George Murray as executor completed the sale, Aug. 7, 1855.

To be sold at Public Sale at Saturday the first day of September next, by the subscriber, attorney in fact of George Wisel, Sr., at the residence of the said George Wisel, in Conemaugh township, a certain tract of land, containing 124 acres, or thereabouts. There is an Excellent Orchard on the premises, with moderately good log buildings, and about 30 acres cleared. The situation is a very desirable one, convenient to the Portage Railroad, and to the contemplated route of the Central Railroad.
There will also be sold at the same time and place a variety of personal property, consisting in part of, one set of blacksmith's tools, Carpenter tools, Sugar Kettles, one Cow, one Loom, and Household and Kitchen Furniture too numerous to mention.
The terms will be made known at the premises on the day of the sale. Sale to

Many genealogies for George Weisel name his wife as Anna Maria
Weirbacher / Weyerbacher. To date, no source for this marriage
relationship has been found.
The source for the wife of George Weisel is the will of Johannes
Crossman/Cressman/Chrisman.
A second association to the Cressman family can be found in George Weisel's
will of 1789 where he names his friend "Jacob Cressman" as an executor
along with his son Peter Weisel.
A third possible association to the Cressman family is the 1820 census of Bedford County. Three sons of George (Jacob, John, John) relocated in Bedford County, PA in the early 1800s. In the 1820 census there are three Crisman families (John, Andrew, William) enumerated in the census above John Wisel.
There were no Weisels in Bedford Co in the 1790 census. The first
Weisels were George and John Weisel in the 1800 Bedford Co. census.
Jacob Weisel first appears in the Bedford County census in 1810.

show that George Weisel and his wife Margaret were residents of St. Clair Twp,
Bedford Co., Pennsylvania.
In 1803 and 1806 George Weisel bought a large tract of land above the mouth of
Salt Lick Run on the north side of the Little Conemaugh River, in Quenmahonig
Twp, then Somerset Co, now Cambria Co. [Source for these purchases was not
given, perhaps the source is the two Deed books in the paragraph above?]

In the St. Clair's Twp., Bedford Co., PA in 1800 census, m. 1783 in Bucks Co., PA (see Deed Bk 25, p. 6, Doylestown, Bucks Co., PA for marriages and parentage of Margaret Rohr). Margaret Rohr, b. abt. 1754 - 6 (Tohicken Church Records, p. 313, 1st. Communion 10-11-1772), d. Cambria Co., PA, 1849, daughter of Valentine & Barbara (probably Haman) Rohr, granddaughter of the immigrant John Jacob Rohr who sailed from Rotterdam on the ship "Britannia" arriving in Philidelphia 9-21-1731. Gave age as 28. In a transcript of the "Petition For Township Organization 1745" for Haycock Twp., Bucks Co., PA, Jacob Rohr, a signer, gave his date of arrival as 9-21-1731. (Ref: Bucks County Historical Society: PA German Pioneers, Hisnke, pp. 47 - 54). Jacob Rohr was one of the 1st trustees of the Lutheran congregation of the Tohicken Union Church of Bucks Co., PA. (Tohicken Union Church Records, Hinke, pp. 19 - 21 0.
George Weisel, a weaver by trade, served as a private (in lieu of Michael Roar (Rohr) (his brother-in-law to be) in Capt. Manus Yost's Co., of Bucks Co. Militia of Haycock Twp., shown as of 10-14-1781, p. 432 of 5th S., Vol. 5, PA Archives. On pg. 428 he also is shown as of 10-11-1781. This Co. was of the 1st Batalion, Col. John Keller's Regiment.
In PA. Archives, 3 S., V. 13, Tax Lists from Richland Twp., Bucks Co., his father George Weisel is shown as a property owner and he is shown as a single man in the years 1781 - 1783. Married in 1783, he is shown as George Weisel, Jr., also a property owner of less size tract of land than that of his father. (see deed book 25, pg. 6; deed book 31 pg. 31; deed book 23, pg. 392, Doylestown, Bucks Co., PA). In the years 1786 - 1787 he appears as George Weisel, Jr., along with the name of his father. George Weisel Jr., owned property in St. Clair's Twp., Bedford Co., PA, (see deed book V. I, pg. 11 and deed book 7, pg. 384, Ebensburg, PA). (see DAR application papers of Ethel Adams Baker, National #459539, ancestor, George Weisel, approved 1958).
John Weisel was baptised John Weisel, and his will is signed Johannes Weisel. Legally, for most court and census records, he is called John Weisel.
But family refers to him as George.
1) Orphan court records for Sarah Weisel in 1829 list her surviving siblings in birth order. They are Jacob, George, Peter, John, Mary, Elizabeth, and Joseph.
2) The Orphan court records for Mary Weisel in 1838 list the surviving siblings and their residence. George - Bedford, Jacob - Bedford, Peter - Bedford, John - Bedford, Elizabeth - Philadelphia, and Josephs surviving children in Richland Twp. Bucks Co.
3) In 1837 Jacob Weisel's Declaration for Pension names his brother George Weisel who "can testify to his service and his character"
4) The bible records for John Weisel and Nancy Ober names his father as John George. "John WEISEL was born April 4 A. D. 1793 Bucks Co, PA, son of John George WEISEL and Sarah PHEIL"
Sarah Weisel died unmarried, with no issue.
According to the Weisel Family Assoc Reunion program for 1935,
John Peter was listed as unmarried.
Note - There is a confirmation record for a John Weisel, age 17, on 17 Apr 1784 in the Tohickan church records. John would have been only 15 years. John, the son of Michael Weisel would have been 16 years old.
Mary Weisel's will of 1838 states she had no issue.

WILL OF GEORGE WEISEL
In the name of God, Amen. I, George Weisel, of the township of Richland and the county of Bucks, Being weak in body but of sound mind and memory, blessed be Almighty God for the same, do make & publish this my last Will & Testament in manner & Form following, (that is to say) First, I give & devise my Plantation whereon I now live to my 2 sons, Peter Weisel & Joseph Weisel, their heirs and assigns forever, never the less it is My will & I do order that my said Plantation shall be valued by 3 Independent Persons at the end of one year after my decease, of which valuation my said two sons Peter & Joseph Weisel shall pay the same as follows, that is to say the sum of two hundred pounds, part thereof forthwith at the time of valuation and the remainder in yearly payments of the sum of One Hundred & Fifty Pounds each payment until the whole amount is fully paid, each of them paying his equal share of the said valuation, and shall have equal shares & rights in the said Plantation.
And further it is my will that the said 2 sons Peter and Joseph shall have the use and Profits of all my stock & household furniture for term of One Year after my decease & at the end of one year after my decease that the same shall be sold to the best advantage & the money therefrom arising, with what shall be coming out of my Real Estate to be divided amongst all my children in manner following: that is to say, first my son Peter Weisel to have the sum of Thirty pounds over & above his equal share and also my son Joseph to have a horse worth 20 pounds of 20 pounds in money over and above an equal share with the rest of my children and also my two daughters, to wit, Mary & Sarah Weisel, Each of them to have a good Cow and a Heifer together with their beds & what Household Furniture they now have to over & above their equal share with the rest of my children. And it is further my Will and I do order that after the said several sums above mentioned to the aforementioned legatees are deducted out of my Estate, that then the Residue & Remainder of all the money arising out of my Lands & Personal Property be equally Devised amongst all my children as well those who are not named as those named in this my Will; each & everyone of them to have Equal share & share alike out of Estate as before mentioned.
N.B. Before signing & sealing, my son Joseph is to have the sum of ten pounds over & above his Equal share, and lastly, I do hereby Constitute & Appoint my son Peter and my friend Jacob Cressman sole executors of this my last Will & Testament, hereby revoking and dissolving all former Wills by me made. In Witness Whereof I have hereunto set my hand & seal this Sixth day of November in the year of our Lord 1798.

FOURTH ANNUAL REUNION APPROACHES
A heavy rainfall diminished to approximately 100 the attendance at the Third Annual Reunion last year, but a good time, good music, and profitable talks were nevertheless enjoyed by the faithful who braved the storm. Let us all come out for the Fourth Reunion on Saturday, September 7, and make it another occasion for congeniality of kinship and the renewal of family ties.
BEDFORD COUNTY (PA.) WEISELS
We should know more about those branches of the Bucks County Weisel stock that settled in other parts of the country, such as those who went to Bedford County, Pa., and to western Maryland shortly after 1800. Both had members who were prominent in their community and a credit to their ancestry. The data below relate to the Bedford County lines.
Among the nine children of George Weisel, a soldier of the Revolution, and Anna Mary (Weierbach) Weisel, representing the third generation in America, were (1) Jacob, born February 22, 1754, died April 12, 1839; (2) John (George), born April 5, 1758, died in December, 1844; (3) (John) Peter, born August 10, 1766, died November 6, 1851 ; and (4) John, born September 9, 1768, died December 25, 1864. All migrated to St. Clair twp., Bedford County, not far from Osterburg.
Jacob married Anna Maria (Silvius?), born August 4, 1783, died March 12, 1868, and had four daughters, (1) Mary, born January 9 1809, died August 28, 1875, wife of John Bradley (June 28, 1805-February 24, 1877), children Daniel, Edward, Catherine, and Mary; (2) Susanna, born October 28, 1810, died February 22, 1875, wife of Thomas Allison (February 22, 1807-July 3, 1886), child Robert W.; (3) Catherine (1814-1891) and (4) Sarah (1822-1890), unmarried.
John (George) married (1) Sarah (Pfeil?) and (2) Anna Barbara - and had by Sarah the following children (not necessarily in this order), (1) John (married - Hoover?), (2) David (to Somerset County, Pa.), (3) Abraham (married Elizabeth Mann), (4) James (married Mary Reimund), (5) Philip (married Mary Nycum), (6) Isaac (married Jane Dorsey), (7) Michael (unmarried), (8) Samuel (to Fort Wayne, Indiana), (9) Mary (married Jacob Mechtley), (10) Elizabeth (married Adam Bowers), and (11) Sarah (married a Mechtley).
(John) Peter was unmarried.
John married Margaret Schneider in Bucks County on September 29, 1796, as shown in the Tohickon church records, and their children were (1) Samuel, born 1797 (married Polly Fetters), (2) Jacob, born 1798, died 1839 (married Anna Maria ___), (3) Daniel, born 1801 (married Elizabeth Poff in Wayne County, Ohio, settled in Portland, Indiana), (4) John, born 1803 (married Rebecca Ronce), (5) Susan, born 1805 (married --- Prosser), (6 and 7) Mary and Hannah (died young), (8) Sarah born 1810 (married Daniel Fetters), (9) Rachel born 1812 (married Jacob Walters), ( 10) Rebecca, born 1815 (married John Fickes), (11) Josiah, born 1817 (married Amelia Heller), our secretary's line, and (12) Hester, born 1820 (married Fred Shimer).
John (George's) son John had a son Levi, who went to Ohio. His daughter Eliza married Joseph L. Dougherty.
His son Honorable Abraham Weisel, born December 31, 1801, was an early manager of Bedford Springs and was a member of the Pennsylvania House of Representatives in 1841-42. He was an elder in Friend's Cove Reformed Church. Children: Samuel, William, Margaret, Simon Peter, John, Hannah, George, Mary Jane, Henrietta, Abraham, Jr., and Joseph F. Abraham Jr., born February 14, 1844, married Malinda Hartman, and their children include William F., merchant at Bedford, and the late James Harold, a noted musician and composer at Pittsburgh.
Another son, Philip, and his wife Mary (Nycum) had children: Mary Matilda (married (1) Elias Diehl, children Jennie and William, and (2) Samuel Nicodemus, daughter Etta), Sarah Ellen (married John P. Reed, descendant of Montgomery County colonial Riedt family), William (unmarried), Emma (married Biven Middleton), and Henrietta (unmarried).
Another son, Isaac, and his wife Jane (Dorsey) lived near North Baltimore, Ohio. Descendants now reside at Los Angeles, Calif.

Widows Declaration For PensionState of PennsylvaniaBedford County Be it remembered that on the 4th day of March A.D. 1858 personally appreared before the subcribed a Justice of the Peace in and for said county duly authorized to administer oathes, Mrs. Ann Maria Weisel-Widow of Jacob Weisel deceased, aged seventy five years and being duly sworn according to law, deposeth and saidth as follows to Wit, in making this declaration, in order to obtain the benefits of the provisions made by the act of Congress, passed on the 3rd day of July, A.D. 1853. Granting provisions to widows of persons who served during the Revolutionary War: That she is the widow of Jacob Weisel who was a soldier in the Revolutionary army, and for the rank he had, I will refer you to his declaration made in his life time in the year A.D. 1837 applying for a pension under the act of Congress 1837, which passed and on file in the Pension Office. He further declares she was married to the said Jacob Weisel, (who served in the Revolutionary Army) on the twenty second day of Apr. 1805 and that her said husband died on 12th day of April A.D. 1839 and was born according to his own statement on the22nd day of July A.D. 1754, aged at the day of his death 84 years 1mo. & 12 days, she also states that she was not married to him prior to the second of January A.D. 1800. DECLARATION FOR PENSIONState of Pennsylvania Bedford County
On this first day of September A.D. 1837 personally appeared in open Court before Alexander Thomson Esquire, President and his associate Judges of the Court of Common Pleas of Bedford County now sitting Jacob Weisel a resident of St. Clair Township in this County of Bedford and State of Pennsylvania aged eighty three years and upwards, who being first duly sworn according to law, doth his oath make the following declaration in order to obtain the benefits of the provision made by the Act of Congress passed the 7th June 1832. That he entered the service of the United States and served as herein stated viz. That in the year 1776 shortly before or after harvest he enlisted in the flying camp in a Company Commanded by Captain Valentine Upp of which Samuel Dean(?) was Lieutenant. That they marched from Bucks County Pennsylvania when he enlisted to Amboy where they encamped. That from Bucks County to Amboy they marched through a number of places of which he can only recollect Brunswick, Elizabethtown & Trenton. In consequence of sickness he did not go further than to Amboy and a substitute having been found for him he was permitted to return home. He cannot, owning to his advanced age, recollect the exact time he went out but knows certainly he was out five months. That in the following spring he was drafted in the militia of Bucks County and recieved a commission as a first Lieutenant of a company of foot in the 3rd Battalion of the militia in Bucks County aforesaid, dated the 6th day of May 1777 a few days after which date he marched with his company commanded by Captain Jacob Shoop and under the command of Colonels Robert Robertson and Dooms (cannot recollect the name of the major). That they went first to Bristol where they remained one month after which they marched up the Delaware River to Corill's Ferry guarding boats where, they also remained one month and were then discharged and he returned home, having been out two months. That he was again called out in the militia but whether in the latter parts of the same year 1777 or the next year he cannot now tell. They were called out to guard prisoners who were captured with Burgoyne in the north in the latter part of the above year. That he again acted under his commission of Lieutenant and served as such. The captain of the company was David Mellinger and they were two months. That he afterwards received another commission in the second Battalion of militia of Bucks County but was never called out afterwards. Applicant states that he cannot remember the names of the general officers but he knew Genl. Washington. He further states that owning to his advanced age his memory so much impaired that he cannot distinctively recollect the periods of his service, but is certain as to the time of service above stated. He is also very hard of hearing and in consequence does not converse much with any person and for this reason his application was not made sooner as he never heard of the pension law until his brother told him of it a few days (?). Applicant also states that he was born on the 20th day of February 1754 in Bucks County Pennsylvania and that he has in his possession a record of his age which he copied from a record left by his father. He was living in Bucks County aforesaid where he was called into service- which he entered the first time by enlistment and the other times by draft. He lived in Bucks County a number of years when he went to Bedford County, where he now lives, and where he has resided for nearly forty years past. He does not know whether he has a discharge but he has at home a great many old papers which he will have examined. He had two commissions one as Lieutenant and one as ensign the first of which was signed by Tho Mharton jur President of the Executive Council of Pennsylvania and attested by F Matlack Secretary dated the 6th of May 1777 and the other signed Jos Reed President of the Council aforesaid and attested by F Mattack Secretary dated the 10th of May 1780. That his brother George Weisel and he believes Peter Maun(?) can testify to his service and his character for (?) That he hereby relinquishes every claim whatever to a pension except the present and declares that his name is not on the Pension Roll of any agency of any state. Summary of Mary Weisels probate proceedings from the Bucks County Orphan's Court:
Mary Weisel died intestate leaving no spouse. Michael and John Weisel, sons of Mary Weisel's deceased younger brother Joseph, were the adminstrators of Mary's estate. Mary's land and possesions were sold and the proceeds divided amongst her brothers and sister. Mary's surviving brothers and sisters are named and where they lived. For her brother Joseph who was deceased, and had left heirs, Joseph's 7 living children are named.
Inventory of Mary Weisels Estate was filed September 22, 1838. Her personal possesions, notes & bonds were appraised at $1830.80.
The petition to settle the estate was filed by John and Michael Weisel on October 28, 1838. A transcription of the petition follows at the end of this summary.
John and Michael Weisel petitioned to sell Mary Weisel's 64 acres of land on January 23, 1839, for the benefit of all the heirs. The land was sold for $1166.74.
The list of creditors and fees paid totaling $752.20 was submitted by John and Michael Weisel on April 27, 1840. $2,251.40 remained to be distributed to the heirs.
The final settlement was presented to the Bucks County Orphans Court on Sept 14, 1840.

Whereas, at an Orphan's Court, held at Doylestown, in and for the County of Bucks, the 29th day of October
in the year of our Lord, one thousand eight hundred and thirty eight. The Petition of Michael Weisel and
John Weisel two of the children of Joseph Weisel decd, who was a brother of Mary Weisel, Late of the township
of Richland in the county of Bucks, deceased -- was presented and read,
Respectfully Shewing, that the said Mary Weisel died intestate, leaving no spouse, but brothers and sisters and their Representatives viz George Weisel a brother in Bedford County, Jacob Weisel a brother in Bedford County, Peter Weisel a brother in Bedford County, John Weisel a brother in Bedford County, Elizabeth a sister married to Benjamin Stein of Philadelphia, and the issue of Joseph Weisel a decd brother viz Michael, John, Livia married to Dr. Chas. Meredith, Joseph, Hannah, Elizabeth, and Henry the last four of whom are in their minority & have guardians, that the said intestate died seized in her demesne as of fee of and in a certain messuage and tract of Sixty four acres and one hundred and thirty one perches of Lands Situated in Richland Township, bounded by lands of Jacob Smith, Abraham Dirstine and others.

IN THE NAME OF GOD, AMEN.
I George Wisel of the county of Cambria in the State of Pennsylvania,
Farmer, being weak in body and of Sound mind, Memory and understanding but
considering the uncertainty of this transitory life do make and publish this my
last will and testament in manner & form to wit:
First: It is my will and I do order that all my Just debts and funeral
expenses be duly paid and satisfied as soon as conveniently can be after my
decease.
I give and bequeath unto my said wife the use and occupation of my
plantation until her death situated in Conemaugh Township Cambria County, Then
I give and devise the said plantation unto my son John Wisel his heirs and
assigns forever or the amount of money which will be due on the above mentioned
plantation which is situated in Conemaugh Township County and State aforesaid
containing one hundred and twenty acres or thereabouts.
I give and bequeath unto my daughter Mary Yunt the sum of two hundred
dollars to her heirs and assigns forever.
I give and bequeath unto my daughter Elizabeth Wisel four hundred
dollars for her services and attendance to her father and mother and a one year
old heifer to her heirs and assigns forever.
I give and bequeath unto my daughter Sarah Mixel ten dollars to her
heirs and assigns forever.
I give and bequeath unto my daughter Catherine Goughnour ten dollars to
her heirs and assigns forever.
And, as touching all the rest residue and remainder of my Estate real
and personal, of what kind or nature whatsoever the same may be in the County
of Cambria foresaid or elsewhere, I give and devise the same unto my said wife
Margaret during her natural life and from and emediately after her decease, I
give and devise the said unto my son John Wisel and Joseph Wisel and my
daughter Elizabeth Wisel and their heirs and assigns forever to be equally
divided among them.
I direct that all my stock in trade be sold at public vendue or outcry
for good current money or on such credit in such a manner as is usual in like
cases to insure the full and punctual payment thereof, and to effect this may
intention, I do hereby vest in my executor full power and authority to dispose
of in every respect as I could do myself if living.
And I do hereby make and ordain my Esteemed neighbor George Murray
Executor of this my last will and testament reposing full confidence in his
integrity to perform the trust thus committed to him.
In witness whereof George Wisel the Testator have to this my Will
written on one sheet of paper, set my hand this twenty ninth day of May, in the
year of our Lord one thousand Eight hundred and forty eight.

EXCELLENT ORCHARD
on the premises, with moderately good log buildings, and about thirty acres cleared. The situation is a very desirable one, convenient to the Portage Railroad, and to the contemplated route of the Central Railroad.
There will also be sold at the same time and place a variety of personal property, consisting in part of One sett of Blacksmith's Tools, Carpenter Tools, Sugar Kettles, one Cow, one Loom, and Household and Kitchen Furniture too numerous to mention.
The terms will be made known at the premises on the day of sale. Sale to commence at 10 o'clock, A.M.

WILL OF GEORGE WISEL OF CAMBRIA CO., PA.
EBENSBURG, PA, Ninth of May, 1848
IN THE NAME OF GOD, AMEN.
I George Wisel of the county of Cambria in the State of Pennsylvania,
Farmer, being weak in body and of Sound mind, Memory and understanding but
considering the uncertainty of this transitory life do make and publish this my
last will and testament in manner & form to wit:
First: It is my will and I do order that all my Just debts and funeral
expenses be duly paid and satisfied as soon as conveniently can be after my
decease.
I give and bequeath unto my said wife the use and occupation of my
plantation until her death situated in Conemaugh Township Cambria County, Then
I give and devise the said plantation unto my son John Wisel his heirs and
assigns forever or the amount of money which will be due on the above mentioned
plantation which is situated in Conemaugh Township County and State aforesaid
containing one hundred and twenty acres or thereabouts.
I give and bequeath unto my daughter Mary Yunt the sum of two hundred
dollars to her heirs and assigns forever.
I give and bequeath unto my daughter Elizabeth Wisel four hundred
dollars for her services and attendance to her father and mother and a one year
old heifer to her heirs and assigns forever.
I give and bequeath unto my daughter Sarah Mixel ten dollars to her
heirs and assigns forever.
I give and bequeath unto my daughter Catherine Goughnour ten dollars to
her heirs and assigns forever.
And, as touching all the rest residue and remainder of my Estate real
and personal, of what kind or nature whatsoever the same may be in the County
of Cambria foresaid or elsewhere, I give and devise the same unto my said wife
Margaret during her natural life and from and emediately after her decease, I
give and devise the said unto my son John Wisel and Joseph Wisel and my
daughter Elizabeth Wisel and their heirs and assigns forever to be equally
divided among them.
I direct that all my stock in trade be sold at public vendue or outcry
for good current money or on such credit in such a manner as is usual in like
cases to insure the full and punctual payment thereof, and to effect this may
intention, I do hereby vest in my executor full power and authority to dispose
of in every respect as I could do myself if living.
And I do hereby make and ordain my Esteemed neighbor George Murray
Executor of this my last will and testament reposing full confidence in his
integrity to perform the trust thus committed to him.
In witness whereof George Wisel the Testator have to this my Will
written on one sheet of paper, set my hand this twenty ninth day of May, in the
year of our Lord one thousand Eight hundred and forty eight.

In the name of God amen, I John Weisel of St. Clair Township, Bedford County
and State of Pennsylvania being advanced in years and infirm of body, but of
sound and disposing mind, memory and understanding, do make & publish this my
last will & testament in manner and form following, viz. First I order and
direct that all my just debts be fully paid by my executors as soon after my
decease as may be - and if after the payment of my debts there should be a
surplus of personal property, I order & direct the same to be divided as is
hereinafter mentioned.
Secondly It is my will and I hereby order & direct my executors hereinafter
named to sell and dispose of my real estate, consisting of two contiguous &
adjoining tracts of land, being the properties I now occupy, and I hereby
authorize & empower my executors to make a deed or deeds therefor, & convey
the same to the purchaser or purchasers thereof in fee simple. Said sale to
be made by my executors as soon after my decease as they may in their
discretion, deem prudent & advisable and the sale to be made either privately
or by publicly xxxxx or outcry as will be to the best advantage of which my
executors are to be the judges and the proceeds of said sale I order & direct
to be divided as follows:
Viz. the whole to be divided into eleven equal parts, and one equal part
thereof to be paid by my executors to pay to my son John Weisel, one other
equal part to my son David Weisel, one other equal part to my son Abraham
Weisel, one other equal part to my son Philip Weisel, one other equal part to
my son Isaac, one other to my son Michael, two equal parts to my son Samuel,
one equal part to my daughter Mary, intermarried to Jacob Michtly?, one other
equal part to the children of my deceased daughter Elizabeth intermarried
with Adam Bowers in the following proportions viz. Sophia the sum of twenty
dollars, John the sum of twenty dollars, and the residue of said equal part
to Elizabeth Bowers. And the other equal part of my estate I give and
bequeath to the four children of my deceased daughter Sarah Michtly.
It is also my will that the two shares which I have directed to be paid to my
son Samuel by my executors, are to remain in the hands of my executors for
six years after the sale of my place, they paying to him the interest
thereof annually but none of the principal until after the said six years.
And I hereby appoint my executors trustees to hold the same for my said son.
It is also my will that the residue of my personal estate should there be any
after the payment of my debts shall be divided and paid over in the same way
as I have directed my real estate to be divided & paid only that Samuel shall
have his portion at once.
And I also order & it is my will that my wife Barbara shall have her third
according to the intestate laws of Pennsylvania, and when my executors sell
my place, I hereby direct that they shall sell the same so as to secure her
third in as according to law.
Lastly, I hereby constitute & appoint my two sons John Weisel & Philip Weisel
the executors of this my last will and testament, hereby declaring this & no
other to be my last will & testament and revoking all wills & testaments by
me heretofore made.

FOURTH ANNUAL REUNION APPROACHES
A heavy rainfall diminished to approximately 100 the attendance at the Third Annual Reunion last year, but a good time, good music, and profitable talks were nevertheless enjoyed by the faithful who braved the storm. Let us all come out for the Fourth Reunion on Saturday, September 7, and make it another occasion for congeniality of kinship and the renewal of family ties.
BEDFORD COUNTY (PA.) WEISELS
We should know more about those branches of the Bucks County Weisel stock that settled in other parts of the country, such as those who went to Bedford County, Pa., and to western Maryland shortly after 1800. Both had members who were prominent in their community and a credit to their ancestry. The data below relate to the Bedford County lines.
Among the nine children of George Weisel, a soldier of the Revolution, and Anna Mary (Weierbach) Weisel, representing the third generation in America, were (1) Jacob, born February 22, 1754, died April 12, 1839; (2) John (George), born April 5, 1758, died in December, 1844; (3) (John) Peter, born August 10, 1766, died November 6, 1851 ; and (4) John, born September 9, 1768, died December 25, 1864. All migrated to St. Clair twp., Bedford County, not far from Osterburg.
Jacob married Anna Maria (Silvius?), born August 4, 1783, died March 12, 1868, and had four daughters, (1) Mary, born January 9 1809, died August 28, 1875, wife of John Bradley (June 28, 1805-February 24, 1877), children Daniel, Edward, Catherine, and Mary; (2) Susanna, born October 28, 1810, died February 22, 1875, wife of Thomas Allison (February 22, 1807-July 3, 1886), child Robert W.; (3) Catherine (1814-1891) and (4) Sarah (1822-1890), unmarried.
John (George) married (1) Sarah (Pfeil?) and (2) Anna Barbara - and had by Sarah the following children (not necessarily in this order), (1) John (married - Hoover?), (2) David (to Somerset County, Pa.), (3) Abraham (married Elizabeth Mann), (4) James (married Mary Reimund), (5) Philip (married Mary Nycum), (6) Isaac (married Jane Dorsey), (7) Michael (unmarried), (8) Samuel (to Fort Wayne, Indiana), (9) Mary (married Jacob Mechtley), (10) Elizabeth (married Adam Bowers), and (11) Sarah (married a Mechtley).
(John) Peter was unmarried.
John married Margaret Schneider in Bucks County on September 29, 1796, as shown in the Tohickon church records, and their children were (1) Samuel, born 1797 (married Polly Fetters), (2) Jacob, born 1798, died 1839 (married Anna Maria ___), (3) Daniel, born 1801 (married Elizabeth Poff in Wayne County, Ohio, settled in Portland, Indiana), (4) John, born 1803 (married Rebecca Ronce), (5) Susan, born 1805 (married --- Prosser), (6 and 7) Mary and Hannah (died young), (8) Sarah born 1810 (married Daniel Fetters), (9) Rachel born 1812 (married Jacob Walters), ( 10) Rebecca, born 1815 (married John Fickes), (11) Josiah, born 1817 (married Amelia Heller), our secretary's line, and (12) Hester, born 1820 (married Fred Shimer).
John (George's) son John had a son Levi, who went to Ohio. His daughter Eliza married Joseph L. Dougherty.
His son Honorable Abraham Weisel, born December 31, 1801, was an early manager of Bedford Springs and was a member of the Pennsylvania House of Representatives in 1841-42. He was an elder in Friend's Cove Reformed Church. Children: Samuel, William, Margaret, Simon Peter, John, Hannah, George, Mary Jane, Henrietta, Abraham, Jr., and Joseph F. Abraham Jr., born February 14, 1844, married Malinda Hartman, and their children include William F., merchant at Bedford, and the late James Harold, a noted musician and composer at Pittsburgh.
Another son, Philip, and his wife Mary (Nycum) had children: Mary Matilda (married (1) Elias Diehl, children Jennie and William, and (2) Samuel Nicodemus, daughter Etta), Sarah Ellen (married John P. Reed, descendant of Montgomery County colonial Riedt family), William (unmarried), Emma (married Biven Middleton), and Henrietta (unmarried).
Another son, Isaac, and his wife Jane (Dorsey) lived near North Baltimore, Ohio. Descendants now reside at Los Angeles, Calif.

Summary of Mary Weisels probate proceedings from the Bucks County Orphan's Court:
Mary Weisel died intestate leaving no spouse. Michael and John Weisel, sons of Mary Weisel's deceased younger brother Joseph, were the adminstrators of Mary's estate. Mary's land and possesions were sold and the proceeds divided amongst her brothers and sister. Mary's surviving brothers and sisters are named and where they lived. For her brother Joseph who was deceased, and had left heirs, Joseph's 7 living children are named.
Inventory of Mary Weisels Estate was filed September 22, 1838. Her personal possesions, notes & bonds were appraised at $1830.80.
The petition to settle the estate was filed by John and Michael Weisel on October 28, 1838. A transcription of the petition follows at the end of this summary.
John and Michael Weisel petitioned to sell Mary Weisel's 64 acres of land on January 23, 1839, for the benefit of all the heirs. The land was sold for $1166.74.
The list of creditors and fees paid totaling $752.20 was submitted by John and Michael Weisel on April 27, 1840. $2,251.40 remained to be distributed to the heirs.
The final settlement was presented to the Bucks County Orphans Court on Sept 14, 1840.

Whereas, at an Orphan's Court, held at Doylestown, in and for the County of Bucks, the 29th day of October
in the year of our Lord, one thousand eight hundred and thirty eight. The Petition of Michael Weisel and
John Weisel two of the children of Joseph Weisel decd, who was a brother of Mary Weisel, Late of the township
of Richland in the county of Bucks, deceased -- was presented and read,
Respectfully Shewing, that the said Mary Weisel died intestate, leaving no spouse, but brothers and sisters and their Representatives viz George Weisel a brother in Bedford County, Jacob Weisel a brother in Bedford County, Peter Weisel a brother in Bedford County, John Weisel a brother in Bedford County, Elizabeth a sister married to Benjamin Stein of Philadelphia, and the issue of Joseph Weisel a decd brother viz Michael, John, Livia married to Dr. Chas. The last will and Testament of John Wisel Sr. of the township of St. Clair in the County of Bedford.
I John Wisel Sr. considering the uncertainty of this mortal life and being of sound mind and memory
do make and publish this my last will and testament in manner and form following what is to say)
First I give and bequeath unto my youngest son Josiah Wisel ten dollars. And second, I give and
bequeath unto my sons Jacob, Daniel, and John Weisel share and share alike. And unto my
daughters Susan, Sally, Rachel, Rebecca and Betty I bequeath the same as to my sons Jacob,
Daniel and John. It is my will that my real estate shall all be sold at public sale and the proceeds
equally divided among my sons and daughters with the exception of Josiah who shall have nothing
but ten dollars. And lastly I appoint my son John Wisel, and John Fickes sole Executors of this
my last will and testament. And hereby revoking all other former wills by me made. Witness my
hand and seal this first day of May in the year of our Lord one thousand eight hundred and fifty five.

WEISEL -- At his residence in St. Clair township, December 25th, John Weisel, sen, aged 96 years, 3 months and 16 days.
Father Weisel was born in Bucks county, Pa., in the year 1768. He was a member of the German Reformed Church. He was confirmed in the old Tohican church, under the pastoral care of Rev. Thomas Pomp. ... He leaves twelve children, five sons and seven daughters, also seventy-seven grandchildren and forty-three great grand children to mourn his departure.

Joseph Wisel (as spelled) of Richland Township Bucks County State of
Pennsylvania Yeoman being weak in body but of sound disposing mind and
memory thanks be given to the Almighty for the same do make and put in
writing this my last Will and Testament in manner following:
First I order and direct that all my just debt and funeral expenses be
carefully paid
Item I give and bequeath all my wearing apparel unto my two sons, John and
Michael to be equally divided between them
Item I give and bequeath to my beloved wife Catherine a feather bed
bedstead and sufficient bed clothing for the winter season, case of
drawers, table, the ** with her and four chairs to be at her own
disposal also a milk cow ** sheep.
Item It is my will that there be sufficient bread corn and meat if there is
sufficient on hand left for the use of my family for six months after
my decease.
Item It is my will and I order and Direct my executors herein after named
to sell at pubic or private sale all my land and tenements with the
buildings and apartments to the highest and best bidder and also all
my personal estate which is not herein bequeathed as soon as may be
the most convenient time after my decease hereby authorizing and
empowering my executor herein after named to make and execute a good
and lawful deed or Title to the purchaser of my plantation.
Item It is my will that after all my just debt are paid that all the
remainder of my Estate shall be divided as follows:
Item One third part thereof I give and bequeath unto my beloved wife
Catherine during the time she remains a widow which said one third
shall be put in interest and the interest paid unto her yearly during
the time aforesaid.
Item It is my will and I give and bequeath the remaining two thirds of my
estate unto all my children to be equally divided between them share
and share alike or their heirs.
Item It is my will that after the marriage or decease of my beloved wife
the said one third herein before left for her are shall be equally
divided between all my children and their heirs.
Item Whereas my brother Peter has left me to collect his rent and which
said rent is locked up with his other paper in my ** which I direct
shall not be taken account of in the inventory at my house but be
given to him when called for
Lastly I nominate constitute and appoint my beloved wife Catherine and
my brother-in-law Henry Heller to be my executors of this my last will
and testament hereby declairing this and the foregoing page to be my

April in the year of Our Lord One Thousand With Hundred and Twenty
