Note - There is a confirmation record for a John Weisel, age 17, on 17 Apr 1784 in the Tohickan church records. John would have been only 15 years. John, the son of Michael Weisel would have been 16 years old.
Daniel Weisel born 1801 in Pennsylvania can only be the son of John Weisel and Margaret Schneider. Awaiting a primary record (marriage, death, obit) to verify Daniel migrated from Bedford County, Pennsylvania to Wayne County, Ohio.
There is circumstantial evidence that Susan Weisel, daughter of John Weisel and
Margaret Schneider, is the mother of Rebecca --?-- (1835) and William H. Whisel (1840)
and married Watson Prosser about 1845. Watson Prosser and Susan had the following children: David W. and Morgan Prosser.
1) Susan Prosser is buried in the same cemetery as John and Margaret Weisel and
her date of death is June 13, 1858.
2) In the will (1855) of John Weisel, John adds a codicil on June 22, 1858 that his daughter Susan has died and her share is to be divided between the remaining children with the exception of Josiah.
3) The Obituary for William H. Whisel states he is survived by a sister Rebecca Whitaker
and a half brother Morgan Prosser.

Andreas VAN SCHNEIDER (or, as he signed himself in America, Andreas
SCHNEIDER), the great-grandfather of the subject of this sketch, was born
in the year 1739, in Zweybrucken, or Deux Ponts, Rhenish Bavaria, and is
said to have belonged to the nobility of that cosmopolitan town, but,
having taken part as a mere youth in an uprising against the government,
was stripped of his nobility and property and forced to flee from the
country. He sold himself to the captain of a sailing vessel bound for the
port of Philadelphia, where he arrived some time in the year 1759. He bound
himself to a merchant in Philadelphia whose name has not been ascertained,
by whom it is said he was employed in the capacity of a farmer in the
neighborhood of Germantown for some years, and that later his employer sold
him sufficient stock and farming implements with which to embark in the
farming business for himself, taking his note without security for the
same. It is probable that his employers and benefactors were Abel JAMES and
John THOMPSON, of Philadelphia, prominent merchants on whose plantation in
Richland township, Bucks county, we find Andrew SCHNEIDER in 1775, and five
years later they conveyed to him 140 acres thereof, on which he lived and
died. He was a member of the first Associated Company of Richland township
in 1775, and is said to have rendered active service in the defense of the
rights of his adopted country during the Revolution and served as an
officer under Washington when he crossed the Delaware to attack the
Hessians on that memorable Christmas night. It is related of Mr. SCHNEIDER
that he was in such haste to join the army in the time of his country's
urgent need, that he left his team in the field hitched to the plow. After
service in the army of five years he settled on his farm in Richland, and
devoted his energies to the tilling of the soil, meanwhile rendering such
service to the public as the needs of the community in which he lived
demanded. In the latter part of the war he served as a collector of militia
fines, and, having in his hands at different periods considerable public
funds, he kept the money hid in places known only to himself in order to
protect his family from the depredations of the DOANE outlaws, who did not
hesitate to maltreat and torture the families of tax collectors in order to
ascertain the hiding place of the public money. In religion Andreas
SCHNEIDER was a member of the Lutheran church. He had received more than
the ordinary advantages in the way of education, and took an active
interest in the establishment of schools in the community in which he
lived. He spoke the French language fluently, and while living in the
neighborhood of Germantown was generally referred to as "the Frenchman." He
died on his Richland farm about the year 1816. He married in 1765 Margaret
JACOBI, whose parents were also early settlers in upper Bucks county, and
they were the parents of eleven children, viz.: Frederick, who married a
Miss ECKHART and had seven children; Elizabeth, who married Stephen
KNIZELEY and had five children; Catharine, who married Isaac BEAN and had
five children; Andrew Jr., who married Mary MICKLEY and had five children;
Margaret, who married John WEISEL and had ten children; Magdalena, who
married Jacob BEAN; Henry, who married a Miss MESSIMER and had one child;
George, who married Mary MICKLEY and had ten children; John, who married
Elizabeth HINKLE and had eleven children; Mary, who married Philip RUMFIELD
and had four children; and Susanna who never married.
Margaret is listed as one of the children of Andreas Schneider and Margaret Jacobi "who married John Weisel and had 10 children".

were baptized there. They may have briefly relocated to Juniata Township,
Blair County, PA in the 1850s because there is a communion record for them
in the nearby Newry Lutheran Church, which Mary's brother Conrad attended.
They had nine children altogether. Of their two sons who survived to
adulthood, one (John) spelled his surname as Weisel and the other (George)
used the spelling Wisel. Jacob d. 14 May 1883 in King Township and Mary d.
11 April 1886 in Hollidaysburg, Blair County, PA. Both of them are buried
in the village of Imler.
1. John Weisel
B. ca. 1828, present-day King Township, Bedford County, PA. M. ca. 1855,
Bedford or Blair County, PA to Mary E. Montgomery (b. 10 July 1835, Blair
County) d/o. Michael Montgomery (a native of Ireland) and Margaret
Tickerhoof. Mary was a Catholic, having been baptized in St. Patrick's
Catholic Church in Newry, PA. John and Mary adhered to the Protestant faith
early in their married life, as evidenced by the fact that their first child
was baptized in the Old Log Lutheran and German Reformed Church in
Osterburg, PA. For the first decade or so of their marriage, John and Mary
lived near his parents in present-day King Township, Bedford County, but in
the 1860s, they moved to Clearfield Township, Cambria County, PA, and
settled near the community of St. Augustine. By this time, they were
Catholics, as evidenced by the fact that all of their children who were born
in this area were baptized in St. Augustine Catholic Church. John worked as
a laborer. He and Mary had eight children. They both died sometime after
1880 and it is not certain if they remained in Clearfield Township or if
they moved away.
2. Barbara Ellen Weisel
B. 23 September 1830, present-day King Township, Bedford County, PA. M.
there 1852 to John Shull (b. 28 January 1833, Bedford County) s/o. Jacob
Shull and his wife Polly. About 1853, John and Ellen (as she was known)
moved to Union City in Randolph County, IN. They remained there only for a
short time, probably less than two years. Then they returned to Bedford
County. John worked as a farm laborer there. Then, in 1879, he and Ellen
moved again, this time to Madison Township, Sandusky County, OH. John
worked in a stone quarry there. By 1910, they had moved to Gibsonburg, also
in Sandusky County. They were the parents of ten children, but the names of
only seven are known. The others probably died in infancy. Ellen d. 24
March 1910 in Gibsonburg and was buried there in West Union Cemetery. After
her death, John moved to the nearby community of Helena, OH, apparently to
live with his son Jacob. He d. there 14 March 1917 and was buried next to
his wife in Gibsonburg.
3. Margaret Weisel
B. ca. 1832, present-day King Township, Bedford County, PA. M. ca. 1855,
Bedford County, to John W.M. Claar (b. 26 December 1838, Klahr, Blair
County, PA) s/o. Mathias Claar and Mary Musselman. Margaret and John had
seven children. Prior to her marriage to John, Margaret had a daughter
named Sarah. The father of Sarah is not known and it is also uncertain
whether or not he was married to Margaret. Margaret and John apparently
lived near Klahr where John was a collier. Margaret d. July 1875 and was
buried in Upper Claar Cemetery which is in Kimmel Township, Bedford County.
John m. 2nd 7 Mar 1878 to Rachel Walter. He d. 28 June 1903 in Baker
Summit, Bedford County and was buried in Burger Cemetery in Salemville, PA.
4. Ann Weisel
B. ca. 1835, present-day King Township, Bedford County, PA. Ann was still
single as late as 1883, when her father's estate was divided. She had
apparently lived with her parents for at least some of that time. Ann d.
sometime after 1883. If she ever married, the name of her husband is not
known.
5. Maria Weisel
B. ca. 1836, present-day King Township, Bedford County, PA. By the time
of her father's death in 1883, she was married to a man named Christopher
Wertz. It is not known at this time where Maria and Christopher lived or if
they had any children. Both of them d. sometime after 1883.
6. Hannah Weisel
B. ca. 1840, present-day King Township, Blair County, PA. Baptized 17
October 1840, Old Log Lutheran and German Reformed Church in Osterburg, PA.
It is very likely that Hannah d. before 1860. She was certainly deceased by
the time her father's estate was divided in 1883 because she was not named
as an heir to the estate.
7. Mary Weisel
B. 12 September 1842, present-day King Township, Bedford County, PA.
Baptized 12 November 1842, Old Log Lutheran and German Reformed Church,
Osterburg, PA. She m. ca. 1878, Bedford County, to George McCreary (b. 1
February 1852, Bedford County) s/o. Amos McCreary and Margaret Davis.
George and Mary had one daughter. Early in their married life, they lived
in the village of New Paris in Napier Township, Bedford County, where George
worked as a shoemaker. Mary d. sometime between 1883 and 1895, probably in
Roaring Spring, PA, where George was living by the time of the 1900 census.
George remarried in 1895, so it is likely that Mary's death occurred about a
year before that. George d. sometime after 1900.
8. George Colvin Wisel
B. October 1845, present-day King Township, Bedford County, PA. George
served in the 55th Pennsylvania Infantry of the Union Army during the Civil
War. M. ca. 1869, Bedford County, to Amanda Smith (b. April 1844, Bedford
County). Amanda's mother's first name was Mary, but the name of her father
is not known. George and Amanda lived near Fishertown in East St. Clair
Township of Bedford County where they had three children. George was a
laborer. He d. 30 March 1912 near Fishertown. Amanda d. there 22 July
1921. They are buried in St. Luke's Church of Christ Cemetery in
Fishertown.
9. James Weisel
B. ca. 1847, present-day King Township, Bedford County, PA, d. there before 1860.

_____
FRANKLIN K. FICKES, M.D., a leading physician and surgeon at Tyrone, Pa.,
whose medical experience covers twenty-nine years, nineteen of these having
been passed in this city, was born November 4, 1854, in Bedford County,
Pa., a son of John and Rebecca (Weisel) Fickes. John Fickes was born in
what was then Union Township, Bedford County, Pa., in 1806. It was one of
the larger townships and was later divided into three, the part in which he
was born and lived now bearing the name of Queen Township. His father was
of German extraction, but was born in America, but his mother was of
Spanish blood. They lived and died in Bedford County. John Fickes located
on a farm following his marriage and continued there until his death, which
occurred in his eighty-sixth year. He was a supporter of the Republican
party from its organization. He married Rebecca Weisel, who was born in
1812, in Bedford County, a daughter of John Weisel, a native of Germany.
She lived to be eighty-eight years of age and was the mother of fifteen
children, all of whom survive except three. The eldest, John, is deceased.
Richard is a retired carpenter, living at Sandusky, O. Daniel, who died in
Montana in 1907, was a carpenter by trade. Rachel is the wife of Henry
Beegle and they live on a farm in Bedford County. William is a retired
farmer and lives on the old homestead. Henry follows the carpenter trade at
Altoona. Jacob was drowned when a child of three years. Emma is the wife of
John Dibert of Claysburg, Blair County. Anna is the wife of Joseph Sill, a
farmer of Bedford County. Sarah is the wife of Levi Hettzel, a carpenter,
and they reside at Nelson, Nebr. Thomas is also in business in Nebraska.
Maria is the wife of Michael Stuft, a resident of Kalispen, Mont. Abram is
a carpenter, following his trade in the city of Chicago. Franklin K. was
the fourteenth born in the above family. Lucinda, the youngest, is the wife
of Franklin Mock, and they live at Kalispen, Mont. The parents of the above
family were members of the German Reformed church. Franklin K. Fickes was
educated in the public schools and at Martinsburg Academy, after which he
taught school for five years, in the meanwhile having directed his studies
along the lines of medicine and was thus well prepared for entrance at the
College of Physicians and Surgeons, in Baltimore, Md. He was creditably
graduated in the class of 1881, and in the following years located at
Warrior's Mark, in Bedford County, where he remained until 1891, coming
then to Tyrone. He is a member of the Tyrone Medical Club, and enjoys a
large and substantial practice which has been built up on professional
ability. Dr. Fickes was married in 1884 to Miss Ella May Kieffer, a
daughter of Joseph Kieffer, of Warrior's Mark, and they have had five
children, namely: Ralph and Forest, both of whom are deceased; Virginia
Ray, who is engaged in the practice of medicine at Philadelphia, and is a
graduate of the Women's Medical College of that city, after which she
practiced one year at Tyrone: Victor, who resides at home; and Charles, who
is in the employ of the Motor Transportation Company of Clearfield. Dr.
Fickes is an Independent Republican in his views on public questions.
