Note on Husband: George WISEL

The following section is notes from unknown author: (perhaps Ethal Adams Baker)

They are notes only, and should be verified.

Deed Bk. Vol. I, p. 11 & Deed Bk. 7, p. 384, Ebensburg, Cambria Co., Pennsylvania

show that George Weisel and his wife Margaret were residents of St. Clair Twp,

Bedford Co., Pennsylvania.

In 1803 and 1806 George Weisel bought a large tract of land above the mouth of

Salt Lick Run on the north side of the Little Conemaugh River, in Quenmahonig

Twp, then Somerset Co, now Cambria Co. [Source for these purchases was not

given, perhaps the source is the two Deed books in the paragraph above?]

George Weisel, b. 1754 - 6, Bucks Co., PA., d. 1850, aged 95 years, Conemaugh Twp., Cambria Co., PA (1850 Mortality Schedule). In the St. Clair's Twp., Bedford Co., PA in 1800 census, m. 1783 in Bucks Co., PA (see Deed Bk 25, p. 6, Doylestown, Bucks Co., PA for marriages and parentage of Margaret Rohr). Margaret Rohr, b. abt. 1754 - 6 (Tohicken Church Records, p. 313, 1st. Communion 10-11-1772), d. Cambria Co., PA, 1849, daughter of Valentine & Barbara (probably Haman) Rohr, granddaughter of the immigrant John Jacob Rohr who sailed from Rotterdam on the ship "Britannia" arriving in Philidelphia 9-21-1731. Gave age as 28. In a transcript of the "Petition For Township Organization 1745" for Haycock Twp., Bucks Co., PA, Jacob Rohr, a signer, gave his date of arrival as 9-21-1731. (Ref: Bucks County Historical Society: PA German Pioneers, Hisnke, pp. 47 - 54). Jacob Rohr was one of the 1st trustees of the Lutheran congregation of the Tohicken Union Church of Bucks Co., PA. (Tohicken Union Church Records, Hinke, pp. 19 - 21 0.

George Weisel, a weaver by trade, served as a private (in lieu of Michael Roar (Rohr) (his brother-in-law to be) in Capt. Manus Yost's Co., of Bucks Co. Militia of Haycock Twp., shown as of 10-14-1781, p. 432 of 5th S., Vol. 5, PA Archives. On pg. 428 he also is shown as of 10-11-1781. This Co. was of the 1st Batalion, Col. John Keller's Regiment.

In PA. Archives, 3 S., V. 13, Tax Lists from Richland Twp., Bucks Co., his father George Weisel is shown as a property owner and he is shown as a single man in the years 1781 - 1783. Married in 1783, he is shown as George Weisel, Jr., also a property owner of less size tract of land than that of his father. (see deed book 25, pg. 6; deed book 31 pg. 31; deed book 23, pg. 392, Doylestown, Bucks Co., PA). In the years 1786 - 1787 he appears as George Weisel, Jr., along with the name of his father. George Weisel Jr., owned property in St. Clair's Twp., Bedford Co., PA, (see deed book V. I, pg. 11 and deed book 7, pg. 384, Ebensburg, PA). (see DAR application papers of Ethel Adams Baker, National #459539, ancestor, George Weisel, approved 1958).

Note on Child 1: John WISEL

John Wisel does not appear in the Cambria County 1840 or 1850 census.

It is unknown where he relocated.

The 1830 census shows John as having a family. A wife between age 20-29 years, two daughters under 5, one son under 5, and one son under age 10.

Note on Child 5: Joseph WISEL

The published biography of Alexander Wiysel says Joseph and Susanna Wissinger had 6 children. 4 were still living in 1889. (Refer to sources for son Alexander) Six children agrees with the 1850 census as there are 4 children at home, Esther has married and left home, and Alexander is adjacent in the census.

This does not agree with the 1860 census which includes 6 additional children. At least 4 of the children (Jacob, Daniel, Henry, and Rachel) should have been included on the 1850 census. Did Joseph marry a second time to a different Susanna about the same age as his first wife? There is evidence this is the case, that the mother of the younger children is Susanna/Susan Horner.

In the 1880 census for Alexander Wisel, Daniel and Mattie (Martha) are included in the household and the relationship given is brother and sister [of Alexander]. The evidence supports Joseph Wisel as the father of all 12 children.

The writings of Ethyl Adams Baker, a descendant of Rachel Wisel, state the parents of Rachel are Joseph Wisel and Susanna Horner. As of this time, no documentation has been uncovered to verify the parents of Rachel. The death record of Jacob Wisel lists his father as Joseph Wisel and mother as Susan Horner.

The first 6 children are assigned to Joseph Wisel and Susanna Wissinger per Alexander's biography and the 1850 census. The second 6 children are assigned to Joseph Wisel and Susanna Horner per Jacob Wisel's Wabash Co, IN death record and the writings of Etheyl Adams Baker.

Notes:

1) From the Will of John Horner, Ebensburg Court House, Will Book 1, p. 15, March 29, 1814, resident of Conemaugh Twp, John Horner names his wife as Susanna and has minor

children but they are not named. This woman is not a good candiate as she would be about 15 years older than the census data which has Susanna born about 1804.

2) July 2002, Comments by Sara Deffenbaugh, a descendant of Joseph Wisel and is researching this line - "We don't have any source for Susanna Horner d/o John Horner and as of this date I haven't been able to find any firm proof. We also know about the entry in Ludwig's will concerning Joseph Wisel but so far have not been able to verify that the Susanna mentioned is indeed Susanna Wissinger d/o Ludwig. I have spent many hours at the historical society looking through family files and anything I can find with Wissinger & Wisel but so far, nothing. I also contacted Bob Wissinger who is a direct decendant of

Ludwig and he has never found any concrete proof."
