Note on Husband: George Michael WEISEL

Notes from H. Alan Weisel, State College, PA, May 2002

1) Michael Weisel [Jr.] (1750-April 29, 1818) is buried in the Lower Tinicum

Union Cemetery - Fox Graveyard with a Revolutionary War marker on his grave.

This information was obtained from the Lower Tinicum church history volume in

the Spruance Library, Doylestown, PA

2) Early Bedminster and Tinicum Township Tax Rolls

Michael Weisel, Jr. is the eldest son of Michael Weisel, Sr. and Magdalena

Drach. He is listed, along with his father, Michael Sr., on the tax rolls

for Bedminster Township in 1783. Their names appear again on the 1793 rolls,

and the 1796 rolls. Michael Weisel Sr. died in June, 1796. The 1798 tax

rolls show only George Weisel and Michael Weisel, Jr. in one entry followed

by Henry Weisel, the second son. This George Weisel is almost certainly

George L. born in 1773. The 1800 Bedminster tax rolls show only George Wisel

and Henry Wisel.

3) Michael Weisel [Jr.] appears on the 1800 Tinicum Township [Bucks] tax rolls

and is immediately followed by a George Wisel. The occupation of both men is

listed as tavern keeper and George is also listed as having a sawmill. It is

believed that George Weisel of Tinicum is the son of Jacob Weisel. These

records seem to indicate that he was in business with his cousin, Michael

Weisel. George apparently was more successful than Michael as he

progressively pays more land tax than does Michael. This success may have

been a factor in his migration in 1805 to Lycoming County where he set up a

mill and went into business for himself. It is believed that John, the

middle son of Jacob Weisel, also migrated from Bucks County to Bedford County

a few years after the death of his father.

Step-father Michael Weisel appointed guardian.

(Family legend was that Michael married a widow.)

2) Some genealogies on the Internet have her as Mary Sorver. Sorver could

be her maiden name but no references have been found as of 2002 to

support the name of Sorver.

3/21/2019 One findagrave.com entry lists her maiden name as Worman without a source. A Geni family tree lists her maiden name as Sorber, again no source.

In the name of God Amen. I, Michael Weissel of Tenicum in the County of

God who gave it, and I desire my body to be buried in a Christian like manner

at the discretion of my executors herein named -- and as touching my worldly

estate wherewith this pleased God to bless me, my will is, that after payment

of my funeral charges and just debts, my dear and loving wife Mary Weissel

bed, four chairs which she shall chose, and such other of my household goods

as she shall choose, to the amount of twenty dollars; likewise she shall take

any cow she please out of my flock and two sheep, and after she has taken

these things out, she shall have one third part of my movable estate and the

Michael Weisel, Will - Michael Weisel (Bucks County, Pennsylvania).

In the name of God Amen. I, Michael Weissel of Tenicum in the County of

Bucks and Commonwealth of Pennsylvania being in a very weak state of body,

but of sound mind, memory and understanding, for which I thank God, and

considering that all flesh must die, have thought fit to establish this my

last will and testament in manner following, that is, I commend my soul to

God who gave it, and I desire my body to be buried in a Christian like manner

at the discretion of my executors herein named -- and as touching my worldly

estate wherewith this pleased God to bless me, my will is, that after payment

of my funeral charges and just debts, my dear and loving wife Mary Weissel

shall take the case of drawers that stand in the room where I now lay, one

bed, four chairs which she shall chose, and such other of my household goods

as she shall choose, to the amount of twenty dollars; likewise she shall take

any cow she please out of my flock and two sheep, and after she has taken

these things out, she shall have one third part of my movable estate and the

yearly income or interest of five hundred pounds during her natural life,

and at her decease it shall be divided as the other part of my estate,

Catherine's bed and such other articles about the house as have been

generally called hers, she is to keep and after the above mentioned articles

are taken, my will is that as soon as my executors shall think it suitable

and convenient, after my decease, that they shall sell all my estate both

personal and real, and make a fair and equal division of the amount or

proceeds thereof among all my children namely Elizabeth Smith, Magdalena

Busy, Eve Shwartz, Michael Weissel, Daniel Weissel, Susanna Shwartz,

Catherine Weissel, Tobias Weissel, and Samuel Weissel, each and every one of

them to have share and share alike -- and lastly I do make and ordain my

sons-in-law Jacob Busy of Tenicum and Nicholas Shwartz of Plumstead executors

of this my last will and testament, revoking , disannulling and disallowing

and making void all other or former will and testament constituting ordaining

and confirming this and no other to be my last will and testament. In

witness whereof I do hereunto set my hand and seal the twenty second day of

April in the year of our Lord one thousand and eight hundred and eighteen.
