HANKINSON, N.D. — Harley O. Anderson, 90, Hankinson, died Monday, Oct. 22, 2007, in a care center at Wahpeton.

 

Funeral services will be Friday in the Emmanuel United Church of Christ at Hankinson with the Rev. Fern Bailey officiating. 

 

Burial will be in the Hillside Cemetery at Rosholt. Active pallbearers will be his grandchildren, Tad and Eric Anderson, Gwen Winjum, Cindy Davis, Luke and Nathaniel Anderson and Katlin and Jacob Anderson.

Harley Olaf Anderson, the son of Olaf and Clara (Olson) Anderson was born July 24, 1917, on the family farm in Greendale Township, Hankinson. He attended rural grade school and graduated from Hankinson High School in 1935. He attended Wahpeton State College of Science for one year and then returned to the family farm.

 

Nov. 3, 1944, he married Mildred "Min" Evenson at Fargo. They shared 61 years together, living on the farm southeast of Hankinson until moving into Hankinson in 1979. She died Dec. 5, 2005.

 

He was active in the Hankinson and Rosholt areas serving on the Greendale Township board, Rosholt Consumers Oil Company board, as a 4-H leader and with the district Republican party. He was a member of the Eastern Star and a 61-year member of the Masonic Lodge as well as being a longtime member of both the Hankinson Congregational Church and the Bethany United Methodist Church, rural LaMars.

 

He was a farmer at heart, who loved the land. As a diversified farmer/rancher, he raised many kinds of animals and crops. In 1962, he received the South Richland District Soil Conservation award. Through his farming activities, he developed lifelong friendships with neighbors in the local areas of Hankinson and Rosholt. He always gave time to nurture and support his four children through his life. During retirement, he attended and supported his grandchildren's many activities.

 

Survivors include his four children, Perry and Claudette Anderson of Parker, Colo., Pamela and Alfred Braun of Hankinson, Peder and Bonnie Anderson of Fargo and Jay Paul and Terese Anderson of Lisbon; eight grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.
