Residents of Schleithal were German speaking.
In the counterreformation the village of Schleithal was converted to Catholicism in 1709.
Georg Michael Weissel was identified as "Luth." or "Calvin" in the birth records of his children.
Given the difficult times following the Thirty Years' War, and Schleithal located closeby to the
Rhine River, it was a logical move for the family to join the "Palatine" emigration to America.

The family arrived in Philadelphia on October 17, 1732 having survived the long journey and voyage. They took up residence in Bucks County, Pennsylvania, established in 1682 by William Penn, and joined a community of Protestants. By November 17, 1743 Michael Weisel and his heirs had been assigned two tracts of land, one in Bedminster Township, Bucks County containing 131 acres and the other situated on a branch of Perkiomen Creek, Bucks County containing 150 acres.
