One of Oldest Residents of the Town - Operated Number of Clay Mines There

South Fork, June 21 - Joseph H. Wicks, Sr., one of the oldest residents of South Fork, died here Tuesday morning at 2:40 o'clock. He was born in Tywardrath, Cornwall, England, in the year of 1831, coming to America in his 21st year, and landing in the copper mines of Michigan, residing there about two years. Shortly after that time he returned to England and married Miss Jane Wilkinson. Sixteen children were born, ten surviving as follows: Joseph H. Wicks, Jr.; Elizabeth, wife of Joseph P. Harris; Mary, wife of John Cawthorn; Alfred and William, single; Harriet, wife of Henry mackell; Lydia, wife of John W. Bottelcher; Charles; Emma, wife of W. J. Claar; Maud, wife of John Burkett, all of South Fork; also 35 grandchildren, all residing in South Fork.
Mr. Wicks returned to America the second time, locating in Dover, Del., residing there a short time. he then came to Cambria County, locating in Johnstown, where he was employed in the ore mines. he later went to Mineral Point, engaging in the fire clay business for A. J. Hawes, living in to South Fork, where he resided until the time of his death.
Mr. Wicks opened a number of clay mines in South Fork, operating the mines for A. J. Haws (sic) & Sons. He served on the borough council at different times. Mr. Wicks was held in high esteem by every one who knew him. In all the 35 years of his operating the clay mines, it is said, no one ever had reason for complaining in regard to working conditions. he was a staunch member of the Methodist Church for over 50 years.

WICKS FUNERAL SERVICES TOMORROW AFTERNOON
Special to The Tribune South Fork, June 22 - Funeral servives over the remains of Joseph H. Wicks, the octogenarian who died here Tuesday morning, will be held at 2 o'clock tomorrow afternoon in the Unite Evangelical tabernacle here by the Rev. Franklin E. Hetrick and the Rev. J. C. Brown, of South Fork, and the Rev. M. E. Borger, of Wilkinsburg, with burial in the South Fork Cemetery. Six of the grandsons of the deceased will act as pallbearers. they will be William Harris, William Cawthorn, and Ralph, Charles William and Roy Wicks. Joseph H. Wicks would not (sic) have been 85 years old next Christmas. he is survived by two sisters --Mrs. Jane Gilbert, of England, who is 80 year old and Mrs. Ann Sylvester, of Philadelphia, who is in her 87th year

Funeral Of J.H. Wicks
South Fork, May 31-Funeral services for Joseph H. Wicks, aged 70 years, of 410 Main Street, who died yesterday morning at his residence, will be held at 2 o'clock tomorrow afternoon in the local Methodist Episcopal Church, conducted by the Rev. Mr. Minor, pastor. Burial wil be in the South Fork Cemetery.
The deceased was born in Cornwall, England, on December 3, 1859. He was a son of Joseph H. and Jane (Wilkinson) Wicks, who brought him to this country when he was six years of age. His parents first located at Mineral Point and later came to South Fork.
Joseph H. Wicks and Miss Jennie Wysel were married here on September 8, 1881. His wife died December 13, 1913. Mr. Wicks had operated coal and clay mines here for a number of years. He had lived retired for the last 20 years.
The following children survive: Mrs. C.O. Diamond, Mrs. Hershel Roberts and Helen, Wallace, Charles, Ralph, Joseph L. and Russell Wicks, all of South Fork. Twenty-four grandchildren also survive. His daughter, Mrs. R. J. Bunton, died here last November
