Charles Weisel, one of Perkasie's pioneer cigar men, died at the home of his son-in-law, Ira Sacks, on Sunday morning, aged 76 years and 10 days. Death resulted from a paralytic stroke. Mr. Weisel was a product of the old school of the cigar industry. A native of Milford township where, during the Civil War days practically every home had
a cigar manufactory connected with it, and where usually the parents and children were the only employes. Weisel learned the trade at an early age. Upon reaching maturity he went to Philadelphia, where he followed his trade until 1879 when he moved to Bridgetown, now the third ward of Perkasie. He lived there until 1920, when with his
son-in-law he moved to South Fourth street. In 1892, when the Roig Cigar Company located in Perkasie, they employed Mr. Weisel, as foreman, in which capacity he served until January, 1913, when he suffered his first paralytic stroke and was forced to resign. Several subsequent attacks seriously handicapped him although he was able to be about until early last week. Early Sunday morning the fatal attack came. Funeral services were held on Wednesday afternoon in Ebenezer Evangelical church, of which he was a member. Rev. R. W. Musselman officiated. Interment was made in Perkasie Evangelical Cemetery. There survive three daughters, Mrs. Ira Sacks, Mrs. Ellis Moyer, of Perkasie; Mrs. David Lovett, of Chester, and a son, Wallace Weisel, of Perkasie.
